WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO YOUR FIRST CLASS HERE AT STEAM HOUSE?

I used to own a house on Islington street in Portsmouth and I would drive by the Portsmouth  studio, Blaze, every day for over two years.  I peeked in one day and I was super intimidated.  Later I heard about the BBL 1.0 challenge and decided it was time to give hot yoga a try. My  original goal was to lose weight, but I realized that the practice was much more than that.  Sara and Jaylon and the team at Blaze were so amazing and passionate! I eventually moved and  went to the Salisbury studio for a while but recently moved back to Exeter. Now Steam House is my home studio. Emily and the team in Epping are so supportive!!! Everyone here is so wonderful.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE POSTURE OR MOVEMENT TO DO IN CLASS?

I live for both triangle and camel.  I can finally settle into my triangle without feeling like I am  going to die but every day it feels a bit different- in a good way.  And camel just makes my  troubled back feel amazing.  Inferno Hot Pilates is my favorite class here. I've struggled with  planks from the start, it was frustrating when I couldn't hold a plank, but I am getting stronger and stronger! Now I can hold my plank- most days at least!

WHAT ARE SOME BENEFITS YOU'VE NOTICED SINCE YOU’VE BEEN TAKING CLASSES HERE REGULARLY?

Where do I even start? I sleep better. I am more calm, it’s better than therapy! I use my breath  all day to calm my mind. I also appreciate the awesome teachers and students I have met who have the same struggles as I do.  It’s a great community.  While I have lost almost 30 pounds  since I started back up in June, I am most thankful that I feel really strong. Stronger every class!

I turn 50 in March and I have a promise to myself I will be in the best shape of my life by then... I have a ways to go, but I'm on the right track!

WHAT WORDS OF ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE CONSIDERING COMING TO THE STUDIO FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Just jump in and try it, why not?  I have introduced it to friends and family through the years  because they know how much I love it. I want to share it!  I tell them 'it’s worth a try!'  My friends give me a hard time (in a kind way) whenever I talk about yoga. I talk about it a lot. Nick told me that yoga is like a crush, and that’s why I talk about it all the time. As annoyed as they act when I talk about yoga, I know I have their support. My friends cried the day I told them I was finally able to hold my plank. They were legitimately happy for me because they knew it was a goal of mine.
